A powerful earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Indonesia earlier today, triggering tsunami warnings and sparking panic among residents in coastal areas. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred at a shallow depth of around 10 kilometers, which significantly increases the potential for tsunami waves and ground damage.
The tremor’s epicenter was located near the Maluku Islands region, an area prone to frequent seismic activity due to its location along the volatile Pacific “Ring of Fire.” Several aftershocks have already been reported, though no major damage or casualties have been confirmed yet.
Local authorities immediately activated early warning systems, urging residents in low-lying coastal regions to move to higher ground as a precaution.
