The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country over the next two to three days. According to the latest forecast, multiple regions across central, southern, and northeastern India are expected to experience intense rainfall activity due to active monsoon conditions and a prevailing low-pressure system.
The IMD stated that states including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Assam, and Meghalaya are likely to witness widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Coastal regions, especially Konkan and Goa, may face extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
In southern India, Kerala and coastal Karnataka are expected to experience continuous heavy rain, prompting authorities to issue yellow and orange alerts in several districts. Meanwhile, Odisha and Chhattisgarh may receive moderate to heavy rainfall due to the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.
The IMD has advised residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow local administration advisories. Fishermen have also been warned not to venture into the sea due to rough conditions expected along the eastern and western coasts.
Weather experts suggest that this spell of rain could provide relief from the heat in parts of central and southern India while also benefiting agricultural activities. However, excess rainfall may lead to waterlogging, landslides, and flash floods in vulnerable regions.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the weather system continues to intensify.
