The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert across 25 districts of the state as heavy rain and strong winds are expected in the coming days. The alert has been sounded following the formation of a low-pressure system over the coastal region, which is likely to intensify and bring widespread rainfall.
According to IMD sources, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds may occur in several parts of the coastal and interior districts. The authorities have warned residents to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging and flash floods.
Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea as wind speeds could reach 45–55 kmph, making the sea conditions rough and unsafe. Coastal security agencies and disaster management teams have been kept on alert to handle any emergency situation.
District administrations have also been instructed to monitor vulnerable regions and take precautionary measures. People living near riverbanks and hilly areas are urged to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain periods.
The IMD has further mentioned that this weather pattern may continue for the next 48 to 72 hours, after which the system is expected to weaken gradually.
Residents are advised to follow updates from the official weather department and not believe in unverified social media reports.
