As Diwali 2025 approaches, many farmers across India are watching eagerly for the 21st installment under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme. Traditionally, PM-Kisan payments are made in three installments of ₹2,000 each (total ₹6,000 per year), and this round could see early disbursal.
What’s the Status So Far?
- The central government has already initiated disbursal of the 21st installment in a few states.
- For example, on 26 September 2025, payments were released for farmers in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Over 27 lakh beneficiaries got credit totalling more than ₹540 crore.
- Given recent natural disasters in those states, early relief payments were prioritized.
At the same time, the official government notification for a nationwide rollout ahead of Diwali is yet to be published. The disbursement is expected to happen gradually, state by state.
Why Some Farmers May Not Get ₹2,000 Immediately
Even as the government sets the stage for pre-Diwali payments, not all eligible farmers may receive the amount on time. Some of the main reasons include:
- Incomplete e-KYC or Aadhaar-bank linkage: Only farmers with valid Aadhaar linked to their bank accounts and valid e-KYC can receive the payment.
- Mismatch in land records or registration details: If the landholding, ownership details, or registration on the PM-Kisan portal is inconsistent or incorrect, the transfer may be delayed.
- Inactive or invalid bank account: If the account is closed, frozen, or not capable of receiving DBT, the payment may fail.
- Pending verification or rejection during filtering: The scheme periodically filters out ineligible beneficiaries (tax payers, govt employees, etc.). Some farmers may be dropped at this stage.
Thus, even though the government intends to credit the 21st installment before Diwali, those who have not updated their details or completed formalities may miss out.
How and When to Check Your Status
Farmers can monitor the status of their PM Kisan payments via the official portal:
- Visit the PM Kisan beneficiary status page: https://pmkisan.gov.in/rpt_beneficiarystatus_pub.aspx
- Enter one of the following:
- Aadhaar number, or
- Bank account number, or
- Mobile number
- Enter captcha as shown
- Click “Get Data”
- The screen will show your name, district, installment status, and whether funds have been credited or are pending.
If your status shows “Payment pending due to verification” (or a similar message), it implies your data or KYC has not cleared the checks.
If there is a discrepancy despite being eligible, farmers can approach their local agriculture office, revenue office, or Common Service Centers (CSCs) to get help in updating records or resolving issues.
Expected Timeline & What to Watch
- Some disbursements have already happened in a few states.
- For remaining states, the release is anticipated between late October to November 2025, aimed to align with Diwali festival timelines.
- Because it is being rolled out in phases, farmers in different states may receive credit on different days.
What You Should Do to Avoid Missing Out
To increase your chances of getting the 21st installment on time, do the following as soon as possible:
- Ensure your Aadhaar is linked to your registered bank account
- Complete e-KYC/biometric KYC if pending
- Check that your land records, ownership, and registration in PM-Kisan portal reflect correct data
- Confirm your bank account is active and valid for DBT transfers
- Regularly check the Beneficiary Status on the PM-Kisan portal
- If issues persist, approach local agriculture, revenue offices or CSCs for assistance
With the festival season close, the extra ₹2,000 can provide timely support for farming expenses or household needs. But only those who fulfill the compliance requirements will benefit in time.
