Malayalam actress Rima Kallingal, often lauded for her portrayal of strong, unconventional characters and her candid views on social issues, has recently become the subject of intense online trolling. The actress faced a barrage of “controversial comments” from netizens following the release of a promotional poster for her upcoming film, ‘The Myth of Reality’, which is set for release on October 16th.
The root of the controversy lies in a specific image from the film, which shows Rima Kallingal climbing a coconut tree. Despite the stunt being a dedicated effort for the role, the visual instantly went viral, attracting widespread negative and demeaning remarks from social media users.
Addressing the online backlash in a recent interview, Rima Kallingal tackled the trolling head-on, explaining the context of the scene. She detailed that her character in ‘The Myth of Reality’ is a woman who lives in isolation on a deserted island, where she must be completely self-reliant and perform all tasks to survive.
“I learned how to climb a coconut tree specifically for this role,” Rima clarified, adding, “An instructor taught me, and after many days of practice, I mastered it. It was actually a fun experience.” The actress went on to emphasize her commitment to challenging roles, pointing out other difficult scenes in the movie where she performed tasks like skydiving and acting with a snake around her neck.
Rima Kallingal, who is known for delivering powerful performances in films like ’22 Female Kottayam’, continues to stand firm on her artistic choices, asserting that she will keep taking on challenging characters that defy traditional expectations in cinema, irrespective of online criticism.
