Karnataka Weather Update: Yellow Alert Issued in Over 20 Districts; Heavy Rains Lash Coastal Areas

Karnataka Weather

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for more than 20 districts across the state as widespread rainfall continues to drench several regions. The coastal belt is witnessing intense showers and thunderstorm activity, locally known as Varunabhata, disrupting normal life in some areas.

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in the coastal and Malnad regions, while moderate rains are expected in interior parts of the state. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to rough weather conditions and strong winds.

Districts such as Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, Mysuru, and Belagavi are on alert. Urban flooding and waterlogging have been reported in several low-lying areas, especially in coastal towns.

Officials have urged residents to take necessary precautions, avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours, and stay updated with weather bulletins. The state disaster management teams have been put on standby to respond to emergencies.

Meteorologists predict that the rain activity is expected to continue for the next 48–72 hours, with possible intensification along the Western Ghats.
